Superfast Broadband Coming to Bellingdon

Some of the keen-eyed amongst you might have noticed that a brand new green metal ‘box’ has gone up on the junction of Bellingdon Road and Bank Green (see photo).
This is the first of 4 Superfast Broadband cabinets to be installed for our local telephone exchange area (based in Cholesbury, serving 700 houses locally). The cabinet is due to be connected over the next few weeks. The cabinet will provide Fast and Superfast Broadband, (branded by BT as BT Infinity and BT Infinity 2, but it should be available via other providers) to the residents of Bellingdon and Asheridge who have previously not been able to receive the service.
You will need to check with your Internet provider as to when the service will be available to your home. This is an exciting development for anyone who regularly uses the Internet and is very welcome news for the village.
There is an update with more info of both Superfast Broad Band and an upgrade (to something called ADSL2+ which will also improve speeds) at the Cholesbury Exchange on the superfast broadband page at www.cholesbury.com.
We have the Superfast Broadband Group (based in Cholesbury and led by Chris Brown of Rays Hill) to thank for this development.

The Bull – update

THe Bull

We are informed by the owners of The Bull, Fortitude Investments, that they have, thus far, been unable to find a suitable tenant for the Pub following redevelopment. In the current economic climate they understandably do not want to commence the considerable undertaking in extending the Pub until such a tenant can be identified.

In the meantime, the owners would be prepared to consider a sensible offer to purchase the freehold, with the benefit of planning, from any interested and able party. Enquiries in this regard can be made through:
Richard Berkley Tel 01189 477718 or 07768 512079,
Email: richard@theberkleys.co.uk

Hazeldene Farm is one of the venues for the 2012 Bucks Open Studios Exhibition. Paintings by Niki Bell will be on display on 9,10,14,15,16,17,21,22,23,and 24th June. Bellingdon and Asheridge Village Fete 2012

The 2012 Fete was a great success with the sun shining for most of the day.
It was opened by councillors Nick Rose (Chairman CDC) and Tricia Birtchley (Bucks C.C.)
Attractions included the ever popular ‘fun’ dog show, a rally of military vehicles, the Hemel Hempstead Brass Band, a real Ale bar featuring 6 ales and 2 ciders, Teas and ices (donations of cakes gratefully received), local Art show, Kiddies area with bouncy castle, face painting, petting zoo etc., Archery and much more.
Photographs and more details about the fete to follow.

Ideas Required…

Bellingdon.com has been asked by Fortitude Investments, the owners of The Bull, if residents would like to offer ideas for use of the land behind the pub. There are around 13 acres in all, some of which is already let for horses.
If you have any ideas, please let bellingdon.com know via contact@bellingdon.com and we will pass them on.
In the meantime, the wheels of planning still grind exceedingly slowly and the plans still await validation.
This delay is greatly regrettable since the planning process of consultation etc. cannot take place until the plans are validated.
This is costly to the owners and annoying to the village which has waited so long for a resolution to the matter but, sadly, there is nothing to be done but be patient.
As soon as the plans are eventually validated, we will ask residents to send their e-mails/letters of support for the plans to the local authority – details will be posted on this web site.
Meanwhile, The Bull is gradually disappearing into the jungle and some residents have proposed a working party to try to tidy the site up for appearance’s sake
If you are willing to help – please let us know and we will contact you when we have a date in mind.

Carols at Christmas

The Christmas Carol Service at Hugh Farm Barn was a huge success with over 200 people attending. The barn was full to overflowing and the atmosphere was fabulous. Many thanks to the Taylors who once again played host to this community event and made us all feel so welcome with mulled wine and mince pies to round off the afternoon. A retirement collection was made in aid of Bank Green Riding for the Disabled and raised a fantastic £232. Thank you to all who made this event happen and to all who attended.

The Bull -Update 14th October 2011

Those of you who pass by the Bull will no doubt be as intrigued as we were by the recent appearance of a ‘To Let’ sign.
However, on contact with Fortitude (with whom, we are pleased to say, we have an ongoing dialogue) we were assured that they were as mystified as we were. Bull To let
They had instructed agents Christies to seek out a, preferably local, independent brewery that may be interested in taking a lease on the pub once the refurbishment is completed. They certainly did not expect Christies to put up a sign outside the building and have asked that it be removed. Fortitude are currently working on the detailed plans for internal refurbishment. They have appointed an engineer to work with the architect on the new cellar to be excavated which of course has to be done before any of the other building work takes place. Tenders from 3 or 4 local builders are being invited. We will endeavour to keep the village informed with progress.

Thank You

Thank you to all who came along to Huge Farm to the service to celebrate harvest. The next event at Huge Farm is the annual carol service which will be held this year on Christmas Eve at 4pm. Put it in your diary as this is always well attended and a great way to meet friends, neighbours and begin the Christmas celebrations.

The Bull Public House – Update 1st September 2011

Bull Public House without sign The plans for The Bull come before the planning committee at Chiltern District Council on Thursday September 8th. The meeting commences at 6.30 p.m. and The Bull is second on the agenda. Following the appeal of the previous plans and the inspector’s comments, the only chance that the owners have of getting these plans passed is if the planning officer and committee can be persuaded that special circumstances now exist to allow such development. So far, local people have shown great support for the plans. The forty letters received by the planning officer have been a tremendous demonstration of this support and hopefully have convinced him of the importance of a viable and thriving pub to the village. The last stage is to persuade the committee that a special case has been made and to this end, our spokesman will be allowed to address the meeting on behalf of the village and the owners. It is also important that the committee do not insist on imposing any conditions that may make the development impractical for the owners who will not invest the necessary funds if they consider that these conditions could affect the viability of the business. What we need now is to present to the committee a strong show of support for our speaker and therefore, we need YOUR HELP once again. All we need is a good show of support. If you are free, please attend the meeting at the council offices at King George Vth. road in Amersham. Please contact us if you can offer or would like to share transport.

The Bellingdon and Asheridge Village Hall Playground is now completed which is fantastic news for our community. However, please note that there is still a small area that is out of bounds as it needs to stabilise before being used.

The playground is open during daylight hours when the gates to the village hall are open.

Bellingdon And Asheridge Community Playground

Playground SiteGreat news, the planning application for the Community Playground has now been approved.

To see a plan of the playground then click here

Now that the consent has been granted we will once again need to have your help and support. We will need volunteers to help with the playground build, be it painting, planting or making teas. We will also need more money.  The grant will cover a large chunk of the build but we will still need more money to add the finishing touches.  If you would like to sponsor a piece of equipment and have it dedicated to your family or company then we would like to hear from you.
Please get in touch if you would like more information about how to get involved or how to donate money, email playground@bellingdon.com
