The Big Lunch

As you may well be aware the Bellingdon and Asheridge Village Hall site has recently secured partial funding for a playground.  In order for local people to meet and to better understand the plans Bellingdon is organising an event on July 18th.  All are invited, Grandparents, parents and children, young and old alike.

The event on the July 18th called The 'BIG Lunch' is registered as a participant for a national event to promote community relations, overseen by the Eden project. This will involve lunches taking place throughout the UK.  The Bellingdon 'BIG Lunch' will take place in the hall grounds where the playground is being planned, as a  "Picnic in the Playground" where locals will be able to see the plans, explore the area that has been earmarked for the playground and maybe add some of their own thoughts and ideas about the project.

If you would like to know more about the Playground Project, or think your children would like to run around and play in the Hall grounds on a summers afternoon, or even if you would just like to meet some other villagers why not join us on July 18th from 12.30pm. Please bring your own picnic (NO FOOD WILL BE SUPPLIED BY THE ORGANISERS) and if you are bringing children, something for them to play with.   It would be helpful (but not essential) if you you are interested if you could respond to this email address or email: eannerussell@aol.com to let us know you are coming or sign up on the BIG Lunch website:  http://www.thebiglunch.com/map/attend.php

Great News We have won the Playbuilder Grant.....

There have been talks about building a playground at the Bellingdon and Asheridge Village Hall site for many years.  At the 2009 Village Fete we consulted the residents of the village and surrounds to find out if a playground was needed.  The results were that lots of families wanted a playground area. There was then a consultation with children in the villages to see what they would like in a playground.  The drawings provided by the children were fantastic.  These two consultations provided the background information supporting our bid.

On Wednesday 16th June 2010 we heard the fantastic news that we have been successful in our bid and secured partial funding for the playground project.  This is where the work begins.  We need help in several areas.

Firstly, several older members of our community recall there being a playground at the village hall in the past.  Does anyone out there have photographs of that playground?  If so please get in touch.

Does anyone in the villages have experience in the following areas.  Landscape architect, play designer, play equipment manufacturer. We are very much of the opinion that if we can use local talent/businesses for this project then it will strengthen the bonds within the community. Please get in touch if you feel that you can help.

We have secured only partial funding for the playground.  If you or your company would to sponsor a piece of playground equipment or if you have any great fundraising ideas then please get in touch.
The next stage of this process is for us to take a group of children to a selection of playgrounds for them to identify items that they like and items that they do not like.  If you would like your child to be part of this process the please get in touch.

The email address for all playground communications is playground@bellingdon.com Please make contact, this project is for the whole community.
