Step by step how to pledge your voucher to the Openreach broadband upgrade project

A fantastic start to the project with over 30% of the project cost pledged already!

We’re aware of an issue with the postcode for Bloomfield Cottages not being recognised by the Openreach site. As Bloomfield represents a significant portion of the houses included in the project we’re working with Openreach to work out what is going on.

If you haven’t yet signed up, the link is below.

If you’re having trouble navigating the signup process please see our step by step guide below: “How to Pledge”.

There will be a separate project for Asheridge to follow shortly.

HOW TO PLEDGE

  • Go to https://www.openreach.com/connectmycommunity
  • When you get to the box below tick Yes
  • Enter your postcode details to confirm your eligibility and tick the “I’m not a robot” box. It may ask you to select squares with buses/traffic lights or parking meters in. Then click the green button with the magnifying glass:
  • You should now be able to see the current project status:
  • Please click the green button that says “Pledge for Two Gates Lane Ultrafast Community Project”
  • Fill in your details as either a business (if you run one from home, including self employed, use company number or unique tax reference [UTR] when prompted) or household.
  • If you get a message about extra funding please tick yes – this is really important and may be the difference between us being able to proceed and not.
  • Then submit the application. You’ll receive an email confirmation.
  • Finally thank you – we know this process has been a bit convoluted but we’re working within the parameters set for us. If you could email us on contact@bellingdon.com to confirm that you have pledged your voucher that would be great 🙂

St. John’s Bellingdon – 14th February 2021

Dear all,

The service for 14th February for St John’s Bellingdon is now on YouTube.

The readings are 2 Corinthians 4:3-6 and Mark 9:2-9. They are read by Eileen with Jane leading the intercessions.

It is on the Parish YouTube channel as a single video – this link should take you there

https://youtu.be/cLZrMl3Rk5M

As usual the service is available after 09.45 tomorrow when it goes public!

Also look out for Songs of Praise being live streamed on YouTube -you should find it here https://www.youtube.com/c/StMarysChesham at 4.00 pm tomorrow (Sunday).

And there will an Ash Wednesday service – probably on the Parish YouTube – but I’ll send the link once I have it.

With prayers and best wishes to you all. Take care

Tim and Fionnagh

“Two Gates Lane” ultra fast (full fibre/gigabit) broadband upgrade project now live!

Covers “Rural” Bellingdon including Bank Green

Postcodes HP5 2XT, 2UT, 2XU, 2XR, 2UR, 2XS, 2XW, 2XX and 2UU

Many Bellingdon residents have expressed an interest in signing up for Gigabit/Full Fibre/Ultrafast Broadband. Tony Orr and Hugh Griffiths have been spearheading the project, and have agreed the project parameters with Openreach who will be carrying out the required works, if we can get enough vouchers pledged under the government’s Rural Gigabit Broadband Scheme.

So that we can get the project underway, please could you now sign up on the voucher pledging website (essentially this tells Openreach they have the necessary funds from the government).  Details below.

You’ll be able to see how near we are to reaching the target amount once you’ve pledged your voucher.

Please tick the box about additional funding, if it appears on your form.

If you run a business from home (we believe this also includes the self employed – give your Unique Tax Reference where it says Company number), PLEASE sign up as a business. There is additional funding available for businesses.

The project WILL NOT PROCEED until we reach 100% of the target so please encourage neighbours to sign up too.

There is a relatively short window in which to pledge the required number of vouchers so please sign up as soon as possible

Pledge your voucher here: https://www.openreach.com/connectmycommunity

There is a separate project for Asheridge to follow, please get in touch if you’re interested in finding out more.

*”Fibre to the premises” which is not to be confused with “fibre to the cabinet” – this essentially means that the old copper wire that comes into your house is replaced with a fibre optic cable that can increase your broadband speed.

Knowing Your Place…Discovering Buckinghamshire’s Parishes

Are you a keen historian, local super-sleuth or simply fascinated by your parish’s past? Do you belong to a local history society with shared knowledge of your local area? Or perhaps you’re new to the area and keen to learn all about the history of your new home and surroundings?

If so, then the Buckinghamshire Council Archaeology Service needs your help with updating its special ‘parish summaries’. These give an important potted history of locally significant archaeological sites, landscapes and buildings in each parish and include illustrations and links to other detailed records and photographs.

The call for help follows last summer’s launch of the Buckinghamshire Heritage Portal, an interactive public-facing website containing vast amounts of data and information about the history of Buckinghamshire.

Included on the portal are the parish summaries, one for each of the county’s 163 parishes. While they are fascinating and informative, some of the summaries are now over 10 years old and need updating in light of more recent local parish discoveries. You can check out the current parish summaries at https://heritageportal.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/theme-list/parishes

Buckinghamshire Council Cabinet Member for Culture, Patrick Hogan said it was really important that local people take part. “The Heritage Portal is a hugely valuable resource containing thousands of important local references. Brilliant as it is, we can make it even better by tapping into those with invaluable local knowledge to help us update our parish summary records.

“We’re really keen to invite local historians, societies and interested parties to join in and help us out with this fascinating project.”

Patrick continued: “Training on using the portal to update the text will be provided, and all assistance will be acknowledged on the relevant parish pages once updated. Of course, additional information, known to the local community but missing from the portal, is very much welcomed.”

For further information and details of how to take part, please email her@buckinghamshire.gov.uk with the subject heading ‘FAO Lucy Lawrence – Knowing Your Place’ and with the following information:

  • Name of participant(s)
  • Parish(es) of interest
  • Association to parish(es) of interest
  • Affiliation to local archaeological or historical societies
  • Any particular area of expertise.

We will allocate a volunteer group or individual to each parish on a ‘first come first served’ basis, although we will be looking for an association with a parish from the participant. This will be a real two-way relationship and we will provide positive support to volunteers.

There is no deadline for expressions of interest, and the volunteers are welcome to take on further parishes if there are any remaining after the first round of applications.
